Ken FOWLER Despite his courage, strength and determination, Ken Fowler (aka-Redneck) lost his brief battle with cancer at home on Sunday, May 18 with his wife Cathy by his side. Ken was born on January 01, 1952 in Kamloops, BC and was raised on the family farm in the Silver Creek valley near Salmon Arm. During his younger years 'Kenny', as he was often known as, was quite notorious amongst the locals for his childhood pranks and outdoor mischief. These activities undoubtedly contributed to his swift running skills, clever and unique humour and his passion and enjoyment of the outdoors. As a result, throughout his life Ken was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping or simply going out to cut a load of wood. Ken's membership in both the local Fish & Game and ATV Clubs is further testament to the pleasure he received from his outdoor pursuits. Ken's career as an Auto Technician began at Jacobson Ford in Salmon Arm and continued in the Comox Valley for Seale and Thompson Chevrolet (now Brian McLean Chevrolet) where he started on December 11, 1979. A devoted and hardworking man, Ken carried on working there steadily until his last day early this year. Ken lived in a number of places in the Valley, but spent most of his years in the Royston & Union Bay area. In November of 2007 he and Cathy moved to their `dream house' on Hatton Road with its 3 bay shop that Ken was looking forward to tinkering away in during his approaching retirement. Anybody who knew Ken would assure you that behind his mask of shyness and strength was a man with a heart of gold and a true and loving husband. His early departure comes as a great surprise and painful loss. Ken is survived by his true love, wife and best friend Cathy, sons David (Terri), Michael (Tara) and step-children Cindy Evans, Shannon Cesari, Chris (Lena) Murdock and Caroline (Keith) Hodgetts. He is also survived by his mother Eveline, uncles Allen (Airlie) and Albert, brother Stan, sisters: Ivy, Linda and Lyneve and many grandchildren and extended family. A memorial of Ken's life will be held at the Courtenay Fish and Game on May 31, 2008 at 5:00pm. There will be a potluck dinner and celebration of Ken's life. Potluck dishes appreciated but not required. Everyone welcome. 131404
